This symbol
shows the Meigs County Court House in Pomeroy. Pomeroy is
known as the county seat. The Courthouse is unique because
you enter each of the three floors from the ground level. |

Each August
the Meigs County fairgrounds comes alive with the sights,
sounds and smells of the county fair. For years harness
racing has been a tradition at the fair. The grandstand,
which was built in 1889, is unusual because it curves with the
racetrack.

The battle of
Buffington Island , fought in Portland, was Ohio's only Civil
War battle. A monument stands in Portland Park close to the
historic Indian Mound. |

There are many talented crafters in Meigs
County. Baskets, candles, quilts, and woodcraft are among the
Appalachian crafts that are available.
The Ohio River Bear Company is known
worldwide for collectible stuffed animals. The shop where the
bears are created, made and sold is located in Middleport. |

Deer hunting
is a popular sport in Meigs County. Many hunters come from
across the state to hunt the white tailed deer. There are
different hunting seasons for gun, muzzle loader and bow and
arrow. Have you ever found an arrow head that was used by the
Indians when they went hunting? |

Indians used
to get fresh water from the springs at Rocksprings. People
still do today. |
